Place-Based Arts Curriculum • New Delhi, India

In August 2014, the Shubhendra & Saskia Rao Foundation was established with the mission to bring Indian classical music education to all children in India. At the heart of this mission was the need for a curriculum that merged Indian classical music fundamentals with established Western music education techniques to engage children in the ways they learn best: through movement and games.

For this first year I worked with founders and Hindustani musicians Shubhendra and Saskia Rao to develop the curriculum materials, lesson plans, and activities. I also served as the teacher for the 2 outreach sites at the Hope Foundation in Nizamuddin Basti and in Krishna Menon Lane in central New Delhi. There I also trained and managed volunteers in the curriculum.
